1986.5 Porsche 928 S 5-Speed

Introduced as a transition between the 928 S and the S4, the 1986.5 928 S paired the S4's new 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 and Brembo brakes with the lighter S chassis. This 1986.5 example is finished in Grand Prix White with optional side protection moldings over Cashmere Beige upholstery and pairs its V8 with a desirable 5-speed manual transmission. Originally ordered through Porsche's Tourist Delivery program and acquired by the current owner 13 years ago, it has been treated to extensive mechanical refreshment and cosmetic work since. Showing approximately 95k miles, this 928 S is now being offered for auction in North Carolina. Finished in Grand Prix White, the car features pop-up headlights, a sunroof, dual exhaust outlets, and optional side protection moldings. It rides on Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico tires fitted in September 2026, and the seller notes the vehicle was originally optioned with 16" Flatdish platinum anodized forged wheels, although they are no longer equipped. The seller states that the paint is believed to be largely original, noting a prior-owner repaint of the rear bumper cover and possible repair behind the driver's door based on paint-thickness readings, along with a repaired scratch on the passenger front fender and various touched-up chips, and adds that the car has been polished but not sanded or leveled and shows its age. Driving it home from Ohio to North Carolina, I was very impressed with how solid it was, like a bank vault. The interior was tired, so my first rolling-restoration effort was to respray all the leather and vinyl surfaces with a high-end leather dye and install replacement carpets. I then dived into a top-end refresh of the engine, and most recently completed a cosmetic refurbishment of the engine compartment and exterior paint. These cars are great grand tourers and, with the 5-speed, a lot of fun on back roads. The 1986.5 models are a transition from the S to the S4, with the 32-valve engine and better brakes on the lighter S chassis. I cannot verify it, but I have been told that fewer than 25 Grand Prix White 5-speed cars were imported as 1986.5 models."
