20k-Mile 1987 Porsche 924S 5-Speed

Introduced for 1986 as the final evolution of Porsche’s original front-engine transaxle sports car, the 924S combined the narrow, lightweight bodywork of the 924 with a detuned version of the 944’s 2.5-liter inline-four, along with upgraded suspension, five-lug wheels, and 944-style brakes. This 1987 example is finished in its factory Guards Red over a black leather and cloth interior and has traveled fewer than 20k miles from new. Purchased new on March 28, 1987, the car remained with its original owner for 29 years before passing to his wife, who donated it to Eastern Iowa Community College in 2016 with 19,734 miles recorded. It was subsequently displayed indoors within the college’s automotive technology department and remained largely unused until being auctioned in 2024, when it was acquired by the current owner. Driven just 16 miles since and stored in a climate-controlled facility, this remarkably well-preserved 924S is now being offered for auction in Florida. The exterior is finished in its factory-original Guards Red (LM3A) and features pop-up headlights, a rear spoiler, and a removable sunroof with its accompanying storage bag. The car rides on factory 15” Phone Dial alloy wheels fitted with 2014-dated tires. According to the seller, the original paint remains in exceptional condition with only a few minor imperfections. Detailed images of the bodywork, paint, trim, glass, and wheels are provided in the gallery, along with an accident-free CARFAX report. The cabin is appointed with black leather upholstery and matching cloth seat centers. Amenities include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, a center console, and the factory Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 AM/FM cassette stereo. The dashboard is reported to be free of cracks, while the instrumentation remains clear and fully functional. The seller notes there is no significant wear, staining, or damage to the seat upholstery or leather bolsters. All gauges and accessories are said to function as intended, although the air conditioning does not currently blow cold. Power comes from a 2.5-liter inline-four paired with a rear-mounted 5-speed manual transaxle. Derived from the contemporary 944, the engine was factory-rated at 147 HP for the 1987 model year, while the rear transaxle configuration contributes to balanced weight distribution. The 924S also benefits from upgraded suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and five-lug hubs derived from the 944. Service records accompanying the car document the installation of replacement ignition coils, a fuel pump, fuel injector, and fuel-level sending unit. Recent maintenance completed in September 2026 included new spark plugs, an oil change, and a coolant flush. According to the seller, the engine starts readily and runs smoothly without hesitation or misfiring, while the transmission, suspension, and braking systems perform as intended. Included with the sale are the original Porsche document holder, 924S Owner’s Manual, Warranty & Maintenance booklet with service stamps, Blaupunkt radio instructions, removable sunroof storage bag, space-saver spare, factory jack and tools, unopened tire-changing gloves, additional service records, and a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a mileage discrepancy, which likely resulted from a clerical error.
