1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible

This 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible was purchased by its current owner in 2023, and subsequent service has involved changing the oil and replacing the black soft top, battery, and speedometer cable along with the rear shocks, fuel lines, ignition and front-brake components, and more. Finished in Mars Red over black leatherette, the car is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a top boot, vent windows, and 15″ Lemmerz sport steel wheels with trim rings as well as a Pioneer CD stereo, woodgrain dash trim, and a heater. This 1303 Super Beetle is offered on dealer consignment by McQueen Classics, a BaT Local Partner in Delaware, with service records and a clean Florida title. The car is finished in Mars Red and was fitted with a replacement black convertible soft top and boot in 2023. Exterior details include chrome-finished bumpers, quarter vent windows, dual side mirrors, gravel guards, running boards, and a louvered rear engine cover. The car was factory equipped with a MacPherson-strut and coil-spring front suspension in place of the standard Beetle’s torsion-bar setup. Braking is provided by a drum at each corner. The front drums and wheel cylinders were replaced in 2024, along with the front and rear brake hoses and the rear shock absorbers. The consigning dealer notes a leaking steering box and cracked rear shock bushings. The front bucket seats and the rear bench are upholstered in black leatherette. Additional appointments include woodgrain dashboard trim, an analog clock, a heater, a lockable glove box, a Pioneer CD stereo, Kraco speakers, and seat belts. Replacement sun visors were installed in conjunction with the 2023 top replacement. The four-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg crest and frames a 100-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer cable was replaced in 2023. The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was factory equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque. Service in 2023 included changing the oil and replacing the accessory belt. The breather hoses and the fuel and vacuum lines were replaced in 2025, along with the ignition coil, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor, and fuel injectors. A replacement battery was installed in 2026. There is an oil leak at the sump plate. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.
